I will be turning the 223 gun I am buying into a 22-250 and wonder if anyone has done that if they had to get a different magazine. I will eventually shoot 223 in this action but that will be next year after deer season is over... thanks!

You will need a new mag and a new bolt head.

I knew about the bolt head but was hopping the magazine being it both calibers are for short actions they would work... I looked in to midwayusa and they say the magazine is for short action or long action but I did not see specific calibers for the short action. will this be a factory order then?

Savage will have what you need
If you order off the website you will need a serial # of the gun, since yours is a 223, the serial # would pull up a 223
I think if you call savage, they might be able to help you out

You need the 308 magazine. Is it drop box?

I agree it will be the 308 magazine. This gun will be converted to a blind magazine so what i really need is the blind magazine for a short action center feed gun. I seen the prices on the regular magazines and they are outrageous ...

seems like there was one in the classifieds not long ago. I run DBM's on everthing.

The .223 mag is the same overall length as the .22-250, but there is a built in spacer at the rear of the .223 mag with the cartridges held near the front. This was so Savage could minimize the number of individual parts on the Axis.

Have a Savage with a DBM magazine. The 308 magazine box does not work well for the 22-250 round. The body taper on the 22-250 case is the problem.

well, how about the other way around, get the gun in 22-250, will that magazine work with the 223? I know there is more than that to change....

The reason I wanted the 223 is because is a caliber I want to work on after the 22-250 and I already have a bolt head for the 22-250 so getting a gun with a bolt head for 223 was a better option that get a rifle that with the 22-250 bolt head and now not only I have duplicate bolt heads but would have to buy one for the 223 conversion...
