Hello. I have a Model 99 300 Savage and I'm trying to find the manufacturing date.
I believe I've tracked it down to 1951 or 1952. (I think) I have some details about the rifle.

Serial# 586xxx
Lever Boss stamp looks like 248 or 24B
Sights: Front is Metal Bead on Raised Ramp
Rear is Lyman Folding Leaf #6
There is also a Lyman #1 Tang sight

It has a rotary magazine with a brass round count indicator.

Butt stock is a pistol grip with fine checkering and a steel shotgun butt.
Forearm is Delicate Schnoble with fine checkered triangle that does not meet.

Lettering: Top of barrel in front of Fold leaf sight states "Savage Arms Corporation Chicopee Falls, Mass, USA"
Left side says "300 Savage" with a small "SP" letters inside a circle.
Right side says "Hi-Pressure Steel – Proof Tested"

With the forearm removed, stamped on the end of the wood circle are 2 numbers & 2 letters.
The number “5” is at 11 o’clock position. Number “8” is at the 9 o’clock position.
The letter “E” is just below the center of the circle and the letter “J” is at the 5 o’clock position.

Does someone know the year this rifle was manufactured with this info?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
This forum has been a wealth of info thus far.
Thank you kindly!! :smile-new:
