I too had a 204 ruger and was immensely disappointed in its performance. But, my best long range p-dog gun is my 260 with a 26" ER Shaw and Ross brake. I use 100gr a-max at about 3200-3300 fPs, I forget the exact velocity. It beats my 243 wssm that shot botH 87gr vmax and 80gr boat tail at very high velocity. If I did it again I would probably do the 260AI.

If my memory serves me right (questionable) it was your .204 barrel I had for a while.

i too keep flip flopping around about a 6mm and the one thing that keeps me from it is barrel life...i shoot a lot so with a 6mm id probable re-barrel twice a year with a 6.5 i re-barrel every 12 to 14 months plus with a 6.5 youd be able to shoot heavier bullets if you wanted to.

After having a long talk with a gentleman that knows a hell of a lot more than I do this morning I am 98% sure I am going with a 260AI

That would be my choice for your goals if not restricting yourself to 6mm.

6.5 x55 if you must.

The .260AI is an amazing round, you will not be disappointed with that choice.

03mossy. I do believe that was my barrel. It shot great clean but fouled and would open up. The velocity was the biggest downer though.

And, the 260AI should be a winner.
