270 win to 300 win mag

I hope someone can help me out with my build. I picked up an older (flat back) long action chambered in 270 win. I want to convert this to a 300 win mag. I was told I could not use the bolt for this build despite purchasing the magnum bold head. My informant told me the baffle and a few other components were incompatabile. Is there any merit to this info? What options do I have at this point?

If you took out the one open on the bottom and replaced it with the one that is closed all the way around you may have to remove the ejector device from the action. I have seen and guys that know more than me may say why, but some of the older front baffles had a longer race guide that needs to be carefuly reworked or replaced to fit. If the bolt operates correctly without any issues opening and closing I think your safe. Have you tried to install it yet?

The race guide(what Im calling the darn thing) is the protrusion on the top right sticking out of the "lug" portion of the baffle pictured here.
