Thinking about converting a 223 Axis to 20 Tac. I already have the 223 Axis, and I think this would make a nice switch barrel setup. Thoughts?

I have considered this same thing but with 20 practical for ease of brass work. The practical round seems to be easier to form as it is just the 223 necked down to 20 caliber.

Exactly why I think its a great round. I was considering a 204 Ruger, until I discovered the 20 Tac. There are even dedicated die sets available. I have a die set on back order right now. I'm going to order a barrel, and reamer and when its all ready I will post a report.

Sounds like a neat project! How long of a barrel were you thinking?

I'm thinking about a 22-24 inch barrel. I'm going to buy a blank from GM and fit it myself

If you are going with the 20 Tac, you can use 204 Ruger dies by trimming .100" off the bottom. Way cheaper than 20 Tac dies.

I have a 20 Practical on a 12VLP, just starting to play with it.

Brass was really easy to form and it seems to like just pretty much everything I feed it.

It's a joy to shoot.

I tossed up the 20x45 (20P) and 20T or 20AI as some call it since its shoulder is blown out..
I have dies sets for both, but went w/the 20x45 (20P) for ease of brass in which I have 6k to use.
I also went w/the BBI 24" bbl from NSS, still waiting for it.
What is your twist going to be??

The Hornady 20 Tac dies are $42 from Midway. The bad part is that they are back ordered until Nov. Have you used the 204 dies to form the brass. I would be interested in seeing the mod.

The barrel I picked out is a 1:12 twist
