Anyone using Speer 180's in their 30.06?

What powder(s) are you using?

Dean (scope eye), I think I got these from you. What were you using if they were being used in a '06?

48.2 gr. of IMR 4064. the best group out of my Ruger is .73 at 100 yds.

OK here we go
H 4831 60gr
hybrid HV100 58gr
H4350 58gr
RL17 58gr

All those will produce 2700+ fps

Did you hammer the bullet in?
with the long bullet & all that powder, did the sides of the case bulge?

4064 worked pretty good for ya' eh? I may try it. I notice my '06 seems to do better with powders that are slower than 4064 - Like 4350 & RL19.
Thanks.

When seating the bullet easy does it, those powders compress very well, or get as close to that amount as you can, or feel comfortable loading, I fit 65gr of Varget into an 30-06 case and compress 110 Vmax's, and 110 Sierra's HP with no problem on a regular basis.

You posted this at 0330hrs?.... Don't you ever sleep?
Maybe I'll get ambitious & try a little load compressing. I never was a big fan of it but maybe it's time to take it to the next level. Thanks for the input.
Go get some sleep...

My dog was barking at a who goes there, a raccoon I suspect.

That is one of the main catalyst to my high velocity approach, a compressed load of a slower powder, instead of lesser volume of a faster powder.

Sounds logical. Perhaps the next time I feel like living on the edge or a little experimentation or even gettin' funky with the cheez wiz, I'll have a go at it.
Somewhere along the line during my reload "apprenticeship" I recall an old timer frequently mentioning "save your shoulder & the barrel. Load only what you need for a consistently accurate load". I guess that's the rule of sort that's embedded in my brain. Time for a little reprogramming?
Thanks again.

My standard hunting load for a 30-06 (from John Barsness) is 58 grains of ramshot hunter behind a 180 (I'm using partitions). Gets just a bit north of 2800 in 2 rifles and good accuracy in both.

From what my Lyman book says & what Dean tells me & now this guy above (guhunter) 2800fps seems to be the magic speed for these.

I got some additional info from Deano on these that I'm going to try.
If you see me on the news with my face all black & smoky, you'll know it didn't work.
