To the Ones that know:
I am looking to replace the buttstock and forend, preferably with walnut , on a Savage model 242 but my search to date has not been successful. Are there wood replacements for other models, for example, the model 24 that would fit? I would appreciate any feedback that you can provide about the 242.
Much obliged

It sounds like a custom job. Pricy but if that's what you want, go for it. Look into vendors who do the TC wood work. Take a look on EABCO.com you might want to write them to see if they can help.

Might check with this guy - he has patterns for a lot of older guns and may be able to hook you up. You'd have to do the final fitting and finishing yourself or take it to a gunsmith to be done, but if he has the patterns he can reproduce them in walnut for ya.

Hi, a word about your 242, It has a scalloped receiver from what numerich says. The scalloped stocks were used on a lot of guns 219 ,220 94, 242 and many others. The main difference I have found are the drop at the comb and the drop at the heel . This is because some are for riffles some shotgun and some doubted as both shotguns and riffles.; Basic stocks come up on eBay sometimes or check with Jack first gun parts or bobs gun parts You can always have one cut at silver hill gun parts. He would probably have a pattern and is reasonable. Good luck Jted
