I'm pretty excited I just picked up my first Savage, 300 WSM 11 FCNS.

I have a couple of boxes of ammo coming to see what shoots best, fed fusion 165, barnes 165, nosler 180. This will be for deer this year out to 350 yds, next year maybe elk (but I love muzzy elk). I've used Hornady Superperformance GMX in my 06 and like the results. Any experience on the Fusions? before I start to reload I like the price

Thanks

That should be a great deer slayer and I'll bet it will reach out nicely way past 350 yards.

Happy hunting sir.

It will be more you and your abilities than the rifle. Your bullet drop will be around 7 inches at 300 yds with a 100 yard zero. Experiment with a 200 yard zero. You will be shocked when you start to work at changing ranges between 100 and 400 yards. Record you drops at point in between and it wont be long and you will range the distance and crank you elevation. compensate for the wind and bam! Use a good bullet and use a quality scope and you will be very happy. Practice and practice some more. Document temperatures, wind, humidity elevation etc......

Only one good way to find out! Shoot her at 400 yards ;)

As for the Fusion ammo, it was the best factory ammo my 243 ever saw. Grouped well under 1" and some groups were 3 leaf clovers. I was amazed. That was some years back. I have some now but have not tried them at the range just yet, soon though.

On the 400yd issue, my '06 using 165-180gr loads, I have a system that works great at the range. I set the crosshair zero at 200yds. Three hundred, I just set the crosshair on a deers back, and 400, I use the top of the verticle post as the new impact point. Works great for me. I just laser, them aim (laser NOT in the scope).

Thanks, Stangfish, I worried about me not the rifle, if I get out enough this year maybe I'll stretch it a little. Summer is a busy time, Salmon, Steelhead, work, family...

I will need to get a couple of days scouting for Cow elk (muzzleloader). Drew a good tag, I just need to check out the access with the timber co charging access.

Good to hear on the Fusions, I have read they are a great value (factory) load.

Yup, get to the range and start shooting 400-600 yards & make your drop dope cheat sheet.
If I can do 600 yds w/ my .243/7-08/30-06/6x45/.223s you can do it with the 300.
