168 Sierra HPBT or 168 AMAX 44gr Varget or RL15 Seated at 2.80" Have shot these in 4 different 308 rifles and all were sub MOA. 2 were sub .5MOA.

Sierras like to jump. AMAX maybe.

I think they guarantee 1 moa or better for all their rifles, they sent the proof target with it and it looks to be 0.750 group with BHM ammo.Yes I actually use a Otis wire with brush, and cotton swab to do the break in 1 round 5 rounds 10 rounds etc, then a thorough clean with bore cleaner when I get home.I am switching all brushes out to nylon right now.

Its fine to do a little break in, but after that, STOP CLEANING IT! All savages i have ever owned shot better with some copper fouling. I will go 300-600 round between cleaning. Of course, i maintain the bolt and clean the chamber but that's it.

I hear ya BW, I don't overly clean the barrel normally, just through break in, after that a couple runs with a brush and oil, and then patch. My normal day at the range is 500- 800 rounds though so it gets cleaned every trip.

Its a 11.25 twist. I will be reloading some Lapua brass this week for the first time, will start out with 168 smks pushed by Varget starting at 41 grains and goo up in two grain increments to 44 gr. Will do the same with 175 SMKs starting at 39 gr and go up to 43 gr. 10 rounds at each increment.

Im almost sure its a 24" as well correct?...if so.....then were talking the same language then.
I purchased my FCP 5R mil spec,11.25 24" about a yr and half ago. That twist came with a learning curve for me. Im used to loading for a 1:10 and believe it or not, I found out that the longer twist does infact make a BIG difference as far as weight of projectile.
I tried SMK in 168/175 behind some varget. Started my ladder test and realized quickly that the twist wasnt fond of the heavier pills. I had some simple horn. fmjbt laying around and decided to give them a go along with some rl-15...BAMM! PAYDIRT!.... I quickly realized that the twist was more in favor of light projectiles. I ordered up some SMK 150gr mhpbt and started my ladder tset with rl-15 behind them. I have 2 loads i worked up. One for 100-800yds (43.0gr going 2780fps) and the other for 1K and out (45.5 going 2900fps)
Just this last sunday I got 1.5" pattern with 3 shots at 1K with that load. I can smack steels from 100 out to 1K @ 100yd intervals.
The scope I use is a simple 6x24x44 BSA on sale from Miday for 129.95....(go figure)
I loaded up the same 150 SMK,s with Varget @ 41gr and got outstanding results from that as well.
anyway...this is my load......your mileage may vary...........good luck

Excellent info, I have many thousands of 150 SMK and Hornady 150's for my M1A on hand and many pounds of Varget, and RL 15 (saving RL for the zombie attack). Makes sense on one hand, but all the info I read on Mil spec says 168/172/ 175 projectiles. but 11.25 twist is closer toe teh 1-12 twist in my M1a than it is to my 1-10 twist in my AR 308 with the CBI barrel on it. Thanks for jogging my brain a bit on this.

I just went back and looked at all my data for my 5R Precision Carbine. I tested more than 70 different loads and variations and the absolute best 5 shot group was a .640" group that used a 150 Nosler Ballistic Tip, 45.0 grains of 748 in Remington cases, lit by a CCI LRP. I tested 5 different powders, 5 different bullet weights from 125 to 180 and multiple cases brands and .640" was the best I ever got with an average of about 1.5 MOA. The best Federal Gold Medal Match ammo yielded in my rifle was 1.04". The accuracy yielded by the 150 NBT/W748 combo was more than acceptable but that bullet is expensive compared to some of the Hornady and Sierra offerings and fouled the barrel quickly and heavily. I like to have more than one accurate load option.

There's nothing humble about Touting 1.5" groups at 1k with a factory rifle and bsa scope.
A guy recently claimed to have made a cold bore hit at 1k, standing, off hand, with a Barret m107(that's a 50 cal!). If he didn't have video to back it up he would be laughed at. Lucky for him he did.

I have a BSA as well as thousands of dollars of Bushy ET's, Viper PST's, S3's. The high end scopes are better but I bought the BSA when I was poor and feeding 4 kids, it served its purpose. Back to the 5r, thanks for all the input here gents I will get busy tonight loading up some more rounds.

I have a family member that has confirmed kills at 2100 meters. He shot 1000's of rounds a week at times with the M24 package as well as the 338 and the 50 caliber.I have been on the range with him and at 600 yards with his 5R barrel with a m 24 clone he is thrilled with a 1.5" group. Thus by disbelief . If you say you can do it with a bullet that has a BC of somewhere between .355 and 0.400 for most of the trip, You are the best rifleman I have ever had the pleasure of comunicatng with. This is not easy. I must apologize for doubting you if what you say is true. Do you have a picture of your hardware? A video would be nice.

762x51, were your groups at 100 yards?? You are shooting 5 shot groups, but dang the PC should shoot better than that. Getting a lot of negative on the 5R lately.

Sure hope my T10R will shoot better than that. I have one AR in 6.8 SPC that will shoot between 0.5 inches and 1.0 at 100 yards and do the same at 200 yards, as long as it has good ammo.

I don't bad mouth any scope, I had my first sub MOA at 100 yards and at 200 yards with a cheap $59 "on sale" Simmons 4.5-18x50. I now have 2 Sightmark 8.5-25x50 Triple Duty 30mm Rifle Scope that cost $200. They are rugged, and crystal clear at 25 power in 112 degree heat in Lost Wages Nevada. I have several expensive Nikons, but for target shooting I need the power to see exactly where my bullet hits.

One of these or a new one will go on my 10TR.

He just might have a really well made BSA that someone built with a little extra care.

for the money, the BSA 6x24x44 tactical is a scope that does the job. Ive sent 1000 rds thru my savage by now and the scope always holds zero. i dont have a 20moa base on mine either so im runnnig the elevation turret pretty dam hard everytime i shoot out to distance and it always goes back to zero.
Its gives me great and absolute pleasure going up to the line and shooting against Leos,Swartz,Nikon,Springfield etc and Im smakcing steels from 100 out to 1K. Im not here to say its a fantastic scope, but its a scope that more than does its job. I dont plan to live in it, drive it to work, or use it against the bad guys in Afg. mud huts.....Im a shooting enthusiast.
The scope has work,d out so well for me that I now own 3 of them.
Thats a dam good price on that SightMark.... I was looking at that one here at a local gun store but they had full retail+ price on it. The glass is clear as a bell and IMO.....worth it
