Bolt question

When did Savage start using the patterned bolt instead of the plain steel bolt? My 114 I just bought last week has the plain bolt with "Savage" on it. But I've noticed others with bolts that have some kind of pattern (not custom) on them. My only (superficial) disappointment with my rifle.

I am guessing the "Pattern" your referring to is the "Jeweling" or "Engine tuning" of the bolt body. (Looks like a bunch of swirls.) Savage just started doing that in the last couple of years.
