Picked up a McGowen 8" Twist pre-fit used--have no Idea of the round count. The chamber seems on the "Large" side as my Wilson dies will size without a GREAT deal of effort to remove fired cases.

It seems to want to shoot 70 Gr Sierra's BUT nothing in the 75-95 Gr Range well at all. The 70"s shoot well with N-135 and the 105 A-Max with H-4895. with BR 4's -unfortunately I all but out of them. I have 7 1/2-400,450 and Wolf Magnum's

Any suggestions for powder/bullet-primer combinations for the 75-95 Varget did not work with any of the bullets I tried of those who have the Mc Gowen bbl.

Thanx,
Jim

I had pretty good luck with a CCI 400, RL15, and 87gr V-Max. I have noticed from reading here for awhile that most 6BR's seem to like either RL15 or Varget. Mine has had luck with both depending on the bullet.

I have a 28 inch McGowen straight taper and it seems to get along with either RL15 or Varget and the 87 gr. Hornady HPBT. I have also been using CCI 450 primers.

Have you tried heavier bullets? My 8 twist CBI likes 100 and 105gr.

I have found that the Rem 7 1/2 works best in a 6 BR, now you punch it out to a dasher don't even try them. Most people chose the CCI 450's or Wolf Magnum primers, in a dasher it is the ONLY choice. The barrel is a fast twist so use it, try some 105 or 108 Berger's or Sierra's. I have ever gotten the 105 a max to preform as well. The powder of choice is Varget or Reloader 15 .
