Looking for .5 at 100 yards with a Stevens 200 .243 using IMR4350 or H4831, CCI 200s and Sierra HPBT 85s. 42 grns of IMR 4350 in Win brass is shooting .75. Any ideas welcome, Matt.

...Without seeing your target it would be hard to judge.. :)

Tough question: First I would back down on the powder charge, maybe starting at 39.8 and working up in .3gr increments! Sometimes I have hit it on the money, sometimes it took 15 loads before I hit my mark. Second, maybe try WLR primers, Third, just work on it, your close. Are you on the lands, off .010, in .010? I would start with the powder, when I found a load I liked, then I tried different land settings.

The above pictures is with CCI primers, .010 off the lands, 5 shots, Nossler Ballastic Tips

On the Sierra Match King 107's first pic is .010 in the lands, middle pic is on the lands, third on .010 off the lands. All are charged the same, 39.5 imr4350, just shows how a few 1/1000 on the lands makes a difference.

All I can do for you and your question. My 243 will shot 55gr, 70gr, 85gr, 90's and SMK107's less than .300 on almost any Sunday, I also have a 308 that will shot 110's the same as 210's with everything else inbetween also!!!!

PS: Different loads before I got to the above, check the difference between 39.0, 40.0 and 41.0 grains and what it does to a group!

NOT Bragging, just making a point, re-read the comments that goes with the pictures. I just posted a few 243 targest, but I DO have better ones!!!!!! You asked about loads, just showing the difference with a few grains of powder and a few 1/1000 depth will make which should solve your concern. Perfection don't happen overnight!

Dennis, I might be wrong, but i think the op was talking about 'his' targets were nothing to brag about and was not referring to yours (which are quite good and have great info, I might add).

1shot, could you post one once in while where you pull one just a little - lol...

...Mikey I did...lol..You see how she drifted out at 3 o'clock...Shooter error... ;)..Dennis, nothing personal on your targets but he was talking about 85gr Sie's with IMR4350..90's with H4350 are within stiking distance...I'm surprized you used 1gr jumps on those 70's for load work...I have a Varget load for yotes with 70's but she's on the warm side so I won't mention the grs...

MY deepest appoligies, I like everyone else take great pride on perfecting loads!

I'm surprized you used 1gr jumps on those 70's for load work

I started there and just lucked up on the 70gr load with 40gr of Varget. I have actually shot a .197 five shot group with that load! I usually start from .3 to .5 and narrow it down from there. If there is a better way, PLEASE share the process with us. And remember I mentioned it took about 15 loads on one of my 308's before I got it! Just worked my way to it!

I know what you are talking about on HOT loads, one person gave me a load and swore by it, but it was pushing the primers out on my gun! Good thing I didn't load too many up. The bullet puller came in handy!

I have learned the most from the site, and I frequent most others! I love to learn and also share information when I can.

Again, I am sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings!

I love my 243, but shoot my 308 the most! I am building a 6.5x47L and can't wait to get it! Hopefully just a few more weeks!

How many yards is this load good for? It also seems Nosslers and Sierra's like it .015 off the lands. All my Berger loads get it on the lands!

I do understand, only been reloading for a year this coming April, and have really learned a lot from the good folks here - like yourself, 1shot (even if he does drive me crazy with those 1 hole targets - ;D) and many others.

Thanks for the great replies.

Sorry for the confusion but yes I meant that MY targets were nothing to brag about, the ones posted were very impressive.

Was going to try bumping the IMR4350 load to 43, which is the suggested load. I always start light.

I also have som H4831, should I look into working up some loads with it?

Try 5 set on the lands, and 5 set .010 off the lands, makes a difference for me!

Setting into the lands sometime create too much pressure, so I am not going to recommend this route.

FWIW, I seem to get the best groups from my T\C ProHunter .243 barrel with Nosler BT's and H-414.

You may want to give it a try. Back down from the max a few grains. You'll know right away if it's a keeper of a load, and to work up to max.....or if you just bought H-414 to sit on your shelf to collect dust.

Not to pee on your Wheaties, but not every factory barrel is capable of shooting .5 groups. Savage probably has a higher percentage that do vs other manufacturers, but it is still a crap shoot.

If all factory barrels were capable of that kind of accuracy, the custom barrel makers would have a lot less business. Even the custom guys are not going to guarantee .5 moa.

So Bret.....are you saying to just give up and not try any other powder\bullet combo's?

Rereading my post from yesturday, I was a little gruff, sorry. Of course keep trying and you may find the accuracy that you are hoping for. The point I was trying to make is that even if .75 is the best that you can get out of the rifle, thats still pretty darn good for a factory sporter barrel.

Again, Mattri, I am sorry for the gruff statement.
