I have a 110 in 30.06 and want to put a longer probably 26 inch bull barrel on. Anyone recommend a good company to start looking? I don't hunt or anything it's a target rifle only, just wanna try some long distance. I've been looking at CBI barrels, any good/bad info on those?

So would you recommend a shilen over a Criterion barrel? I would like to put a muzzle brake on it eventually, I think.

I would say they are both well made barrels and either will do what you want. Are you going to change calibers?

The McGowan barrels are just as good as those mentioned, and they are in stock no waiting.

Yes, I would like to stay with the same caliber but thought about going with a 11 to 1 twist instead. I appreciate all the information, probably save me from a expensive ooooops.

Anyone know of or recommend any good smith's in ks by chance? Or would I be better off having the barrel manufacturer do my assembly?

I am sure the turn around time would be a lot quicker the barrel MFG route.

Scooe, you said you use 1-12 twist. What round are you shooting? I've been using 180gr. I want to shoot long distance, 500 + no hunting just a paper shredder. Thanks again for all the help everyone. More knowledge is good knowledge.

Hey TNT folks tend to over look the 30-06, since it's old school and not trendy, but don't forget it holds 15 more grains of powder than a 308, that comes in real handy, I can shoot a 175gr Sierra HP with 63gr of RL17 and end up with 3200 FPS, or 65 gr of Varget and a 110 Sierra HP or a 110gr Vmax and end up with 4000 FPS, and everything in between all with excellent groupings, very versatile gun, and not hard on brass no matter how harsh I am on it, My favorite bullets are those Barnes TTSX 110gr and the 130gr but there so darn expensive the 150s -165s-168s and 180s are just as sweet.

you want premium barrel? or just any bull barrel?

That's why I go with a 12 twist, so I am not constraint to certain bullets, I have found it will shoot the widest range of bullet weights.

I personally would give mcgowen a chance at your business. You can cvhange the barrel in 20 minutes by buying a few tools which are cheaper than what a smith charges.I have 4 mcgowens and am pleased.I have had 3 shilens and only 2 shot very well. Look up dennis haffner I believe is dennish on the mcgowen forum,at the mcgowenoutlet.com Cant beat the price or delivery time. 3 days or so.
