Will a staggered feed long action work with a center feed long action detachable magazine?

Seems it should be fine as magazine is held in place by bottom metal ...

I thought the only difference was how the magazine attached to the action.

If the magazine is attached to the stock would a staggered feed long action know or care?

Isn't the hole in the bottom of the action in the same place and the same size on all long actions?

Is the bolt head cut different to strip cartridges from the mag well?

I am talking specifically about .270 - 30-06 mag length long actions, not the .223/.308/ultra mag long actions.

The stagard feed is shorter, and narower than the centerfeed. You could have someone machine the action to accept the centerfeed magazine.

Almost.

The rear slot where the magazine tab goes is where there is interference. The tab of the bottom metal just touches the bottom of the stagger feed action. That tab is where the magazine catches on that end.

If I were to guess, you'd be able to dremel just enough relief for the tab of the magazine to catch on the tab of the bottom metal. I think you could even do it without messing with the slot for the stagger feed magazine.

Here's a picture of what's going on.

The reason I asked this was because I was considering one of these for use with a detachable mag and a staggered feed action:

Although the B&C catelog does not list them for Savages.

Would make a great sporter stock!
