Bartlein. I have my Smith shoulder it like a Remmy.

Lol. (You know you said that on a Savage forum...) Possibility I could do that but what are the benefits?

It's bartlein. Nuff said. Plus a shouldered barrel tends to be heavier. And weight's your friend on a 338lm.

I would like to see a seperate thread on this one gentlemans accurracy problem and try to help the OP Ludicrous who looking for a barrel on this thread.

Body makes a good point and as long as you use the same action, bolthead and recoil lug with your shouldered barrel you can still swap barrels back and forth if you must. It is really no big deal with the exception of a slight cost difference.

I use Brux blanks and keep the barrel nut.

I contacted several of the barrel suppliers mentioned here and on other threads. So far Mcgowan said they can supply one but wants me to send the rifle to them for install and currently they are 14-16 weeks out on a 338. Brux said they don't make any savage profits and instead make blanks that need to go to a gunsmith to be chambered, installed etc etc. So far I am not having much luck

Go to bugholes.com for the barrel. They have several different .338 barrel blanks in stock. I use Robert Snyder (RWS Gunsmithing) to chamber barrels for me. His turn around is usually about 8 weeks or so and his work is outstanding.

I am going to have benchmark build mine. I bought one of their prefits in 300 wsm and love it. A couple buddies have had them do 338s for them with great luck.
