Should I replace my recoil lug?

Putting a factory heavy barrel 308 on my Stevens 200. Is it worth replacing the recoil lug with a precision ground lug or is this only beneficial if the action is trued? This will be a precision target build for shooting out to 800 yards. McMillan A5 stock, SSS comp trigger, SWFA 10x scope.

I would. It does not cost much, and if it makes you feel better, you will shoot better. Plus it might actually help.

For the price as long as you are putting on a barrel anyway I would add one also.

Call NSS and get the Ground Recoil Lug, and Precision Barrel Nut. You can thank me later. ;)

I have gone back and taken apart rifles, just to change over the recoil lug. if you held one side by side and saw the difference, you would not even have posted this question.

What scope eye says is true. I have ground them.015 to get them completely flat with 100% contact all around. This possibly explains why savage bends barrels to make them soot straight.(???). If you have any honing skills you might want to take a "fine" grade small hone that is known to be "flat" and lightly touch the face of the nut and action while you are there. We are talking removing the high spots nothing else.
