Does any body know if this is a simple neck down and fire form or does it require a special die, I like the idea of the 17 Rem, but I don't want to have to rely on Remington for my only source of brass, and 222 brass is half the price.

Standard 222 brass will not work very well , one thing the 222 is .096 shorter than 17 Rem case's and the necks will need to be turned as they will be way too thick to chamber ( been there -done that )

Now the 222 Rem Mag case will work but not only will you have to turn the necks but you will also have to trim the case OL shorter too . Best advice , just bite the bullet and buy 17 brass to start with .

I agree with Stimpy. I attempted to cut down and neck down and neck size and neck trim the .223 brass in order to make .17 Fireball brass. I think I spent about 3 hours and toasted a dozen .223 pieces before I figured out my time was worth more than attempting to make the brass.

If you can find it, Nosler is offering 17 Remington brass. I haven't heard any feedback on quality yet....sorry

Brunoshooters is currently taking back orders on it. about $75 per 100

I wonder how well 204 brass would work, maybe have the same issue with thickness.

The 204 should give you the length you need , yet your still looking at maybe needing to neck turn , a lot depends on the cut of your chamber .
