Just completing the pillar job (already did the bedding and the pillars were a after thought) and the finish on mine this weekend. It rained all weekend so worked on it a lot! I have to put a couple more coats of Polycrylic Clear Satin finish on it. I found a stain "Golden Oak" that turned out real nice!
Gary the bottom plate template you sent me worked out great! Thanks again. So far this is the second one I have done, the first was for the .308 and this one is for my 25-06. I will post some pics of it also when I finish up on it

I have a blank piece of Walnut I think I will try and do the next one for my .223. I will try and make a series on it when I start it.

Thanks again Gary for the bottom plate template you sent me!

Oh and junkman1967 you can get the stock over at Numrich gun parts http://www.gunpartscorp.com/

Hopefully they will work.

I did forget to take a pic of the single feed tray I made, so I didn't have to fit a magazine. I'll get it later, and edit this post.

Soo close Gary! Rather than using the URL code from Photobucket, use the IMG code (just replace the URL with IMG on both ends of the links in your above post). That will let the images display here rather than just showing links to them back on your photobucket account.

Nicely done on the wood stock. When are you coming down to do a few of mine?...

Or you want I should send them to you?

Looks good. nice shooting, too.

How many hours do I have I the stock???
Nobody & I mean nobody can screw up a piece of wood like me. Many have tried. Probably the reason I always stayed with electrical & concrete.
Just pulling yours & my fellow Flordian's (fl9-40) chain a bit.

Besides, I've grown quite accustomed to the plastic "flex - o - matic stock. We've learned to compliment each other....

Still, nice work.

savagebuilder I would have to ponder on that awhile, did not keep track of time. I just came home from work every day and hit at it a couple hours and did spend a rainy weekend on it also...really hard to say. A week maybe???

I can't wait to try this when I get home in august. I've been planning it out daily while I'm away. I might order two because I really want to fit a DBM kit on it from legacy sports, but since I've never done a stock before might just keep it simple on the first try. For some reason I just want to make this Axis a real shooter. Hopefully I'll have pictures to post come September.

FLA9-40 did you install the pillars before or after the glass bedding?

Did it as part of the bedding process. I trimmed them to length then bed them and the action. Worked out real well, just put a light coat of grease where the actions screws go through so as not to cement the screws in.
Release agent on the action, barrel and action screws. I used clear shoe polish, can NOT be used sparingly or you will have a surprise when you go to remove the action and barrel to inspect your work 24hrs later!! I put two coats on all parts.
