I was shooting 142gr SMKs in my LRP with excellent results. .244in 5 shot groups. I bought the model 10 predator also in .260rem and thought it should shoot the SMKs as well but I am not getting the groups I desire so I am wondering what you guys are using. I ordered some 140gr AMAXs thinking maybe a change in ogive typ maybe the difference.

Funny you mention this--I'm seriously considering adding a 260 rem to the collection and have been eying the 111 trophy hunter.

I think the .260 is in the top 3 of the best long range and medium game hunting rounds available today as long as you handload for it. My 12 LRP is a tack driver and hope this 10 Predator I bought will do the same.

mnhntr, what powder did you end up using on the 142's? I gave up on the 142 in my LRP. I shoot the 130 berger with H4350.
....... Never mind, I found your earlier post. It wouldn't work in mine.

With my 6.5 Swede (admittedly, not a 260, but ballistically very close) I was on target at 1020 yards with 140 grain SSTs Don't have a group size as we were shooting at painted rocks and spray cans. I am going to order some blemished 140 grain Amaxes from Midway and see how they perform.

I could not get 140's or 142 SMK's to stay together past 500. I went to 123 Scenars and now have a hammer to 850, thats as far as I have right now. I understand the energy aspect, but steel does not care how hard you hit it and neither do dead deer.

I have always been a hugh fan of Sierra 142g in my Creedmoor, we got the wife a Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor, was playing with a few others bullets because of a lack of supply, found the Nosler 140g Custom Comp, BTHP to shoot amazing out of her rifle, The rifle is stock except for the Chaote Stock we mounted it on. Dont know if you would have the same results in the .260. Here is a picture of a four shot group at 200 yards.

140 berger vld and 43.5gr of H4350 out of a model 10 with one of those 24" shilens from northland. Inch and a half 5 shot groups at 400 meters.

im of the opinion the 6.5 creedmore and the 260 are pretty much equal balisticly. a guy on another site with a
recently aquired custom creedmore shows pictures of 3140 with 60 gr h1000 and a 140 amax. roughly 3/4"
10 shot group with most about half that. i wasent aware that cartridge would hold that much powder.
i have been playing around with a 6.5 short mag for several years. all the bullets from 120 to 142 shoot pretty well.
the 140 bergers do seem to fly better at the longer distances. i personaly get little enjoyment from shooting groups.
maybe because im not all that good at it. i do it for 1 reason. to get a decent load i can shoot at rocks with at long distances. so far h1000 and the 140 bergers are winning in my gun.

I am hoping I do not have to put a new barrel on a new rifle but I may of this one doesn't shoot.

I hope you don't either. This is just one I put together, bought the action and barrel separate to make a long range hunting rig out of. Just listed what I have and the load i'm running for your convenience.

Thanks I thought you rebarreled one. I tried the Bergers in the LRP and they were ok but I could not push them as fast as the SMKs but I may have to get some to try in this rifle if the AMAXs don't work.

I don't think I could that much h1000 in my 6.5-284 let alone a creedmoore?

Well severly disappointed in this new rifle. It will not shoot anything I have tried. I did 2 ladders and an ocw and with the results loaded some rounds to shoot groups today. The best group was 1.5in at 100yds. I thought for sure this thing would at least be close to the accuracy of my LRP but it is not. I used 123gr and 140gr AMAXs and 142gr SMKs, on the lands and off 0.010 and 0.020 with no luck. It was windy today but it should not have hurt the accuracy that much. I am now considering a new barrel.

My model 10 Predator wouldn't shoot factory Federal 120's for anything but once I started cranking out rounds its incredible.

So far mine really likes Nosler 100 and 120 BT's. I loaded up some Barnes TTSX 120's but haven't gotten a chance to shoot them yet.

These are definitely picky rifles though

I have three .260s, a Shilen 26" 8 twist and two Shaw 24" 9 twist....All three love the berger 130 VLD with 46 gr H4831sc...about 2800...all shoot sub .5moa....FL..Rem brass...CCI 200s.....010 off the lands in the Shilen and sit about .015 off with the same COAL in the Shaws...(2.920)....The Shilen does better with 123 scenars and the same powder...but having one all around load for all three suit my purposes better.....One note is that the Shilen shot great from day one but the Shaws took about 200 rounds each to "come in"....
Good Luck,
Randy
