Just got a very nice 99 in 250-3000 # says it was made in 1912. with it I got 10 boxes of ammo, on the boxes is marked the date as of 2 @ 1944,2 @ 1945 3@ 1946, 2@ 1947, 1@ 1966, all 100 gr. plus 1 with 87GR. Do I shoot or keep? Thanks for your answers.

Wow, nice problem to have. I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. I would shoot the gun, but probably not with that old ammo.
Two reasons:
1. Old ammo is very collectible, and you could probably get a very good price from a collector. I'm curious. Are the boxes full? What brand are they?
2. Chances are your early 250-3000 won't shoot very well with 100 grain bullets. You could test that by shooting a box of modern 250 Savage factory rounds. I haven't seen anything other than 100 gr loads available.

If the 100 grain loads don't stabilize, handloading lighter bullets would be your only other choice.

Thanks Mike, The boxes are all full and are Rem, win, and peters. I do handload so no problem.

I wonder where I could find out about what they are worth

I'm going to the Ohio Gun Collectors meeting this weekend. I'll ask around. There's always several ammo collectors buying and selling.

I asked around at the OGCA meeting today. First thing everyone wanted to know is if they were Savage ammo with the Indian on the box. Apparently those are very collectible. For Remington and Winchester, they said probably around $40 a box, but also said that if the boxes were in really good condition you might be able to get that just for the box.

Not sure where that leaves you. It would be nice just to have correctly head stamped cases. I haven't seen 250-3000 cases for sale and have been necking up 22-250 cases for mine. I have to be very careful since I shoot a 22-250 also.

I bought 100 Remington cases from Cabelas not very long ago. I believe midway had some too.
