Savage axis for my wife, youth model, or cut stock down on a standard axis..?

Getting my wife into shooting with me but the standard axis length of pull is too long for her, what is the difference between the standard and youth models...?

can you cut the stock down on the standard and still mount the pad..?

I cut my Axis stock by about 2" and made a huge difference. I bought a Winchester branded Limbsaver at Walmart for $23...which was quite a bit less expensive than buying the Limbsaver branded recoil pad. I bought the small and it fit perfect.
