I am having kevin at stockade put a 7mm mag tensioned 26" barrel on my savage. the odds of me shooting past 600 yard is very slim. need help deciding on a scope as i have never shot these ranges before. I was looking at a bushnell with doa. in a 4200, or a 6500. would like to stay $800 or less.

Personally, I would go with a Leupold 8.5-25x50 vx3.

Some people have had issues with Bushnell warranty...that would be my only concern.

Sightron S-3 8-32. $750 or there abouts.

Give the Vortex line a look. Never used one but they get high reviews.

You could shoot that far easily with a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x for less than $200 shipped to your door.

You need to ask yourself what do you want in a scope? Do you want a ballistic drop reticle for quick & dirty long range shooting? Do you want variable power, or fixed? Do you want the big bulky target knobs or something smaller that does the same thing? Do you want an illuminated scope?

If you don't have much preference, just buy the scope I mentioned above. Everyone should have one of those laying around anyway because of the quality you get for that price.

I highly suggest you check out the vortex vipers. If you are looking at moderately priced scopes, or Valdada-IOR if price isn't too much of an issue

I have a number of the scopes mentioned so far..... I have a problem with the Leupold 8-32x50 only because of the 8 power being a bit much for closer shots, the 6.5-20x50LR/T w/varmint reticle can be found at the upper end of your price range.... Wonderful scope..... or even the 3.5x10 Mark "line", I've used one out to 600yrds with no problem, far end for putting antlers on though.... at least for me... (understand that I'm 61yrs old)

As far as the Bushnell, I have a 5-15x50 Elite 3200, mounted on my 22-250AI, it's a great scope for the money..... Bushnell's warranty is great as far as I'm concerned, I returned an 8x32 Elite 4200 "no questions asked", full refund without any problems at all..... To much magnification, very hard to steady at high end and not that clear, I understand the 6500 is much much better....

Vortex Vipers or SII Bigsky & SIII Sightrons would be my first choice
Bushnell 4200 and 6500's are good but the 4200's are lacking in the adjustment area, and the 6500 are salty.
