Here is my question.

My BAS is shouldered. It fits into the cocking sleeve. All of the pics I've seen for the bolt lift kits would require chopping 1/2 " off my BAS, so I'm assuming there was a change to the screw. I know they went to an allen screw after this one. When did they go to a non shouldered bolt?

Would it be easier to replace the bolt with something from the hardware store, trim this one down, or order a new one from savage?

Just get a current BAS. The one that you have is harder than the hubs of .......

Or make a spacer the same functional thickness as your bolt lift kit.

that spacer would be 3/4 an inch long in this case. The cocking sleeve doesnt ride against the bottom of the bolt. The bolt is actually shouldered and extends INTO the cocking sleeve by 1/2 inch or so.

do not worry about the shoulder on the old BAS
get a new one ,measure your cocking sleave then, then add add your bolt lift kit
an measure again, the diff. cut off of your new BAS
