Hey guys, forgive my ignorance but this is my first rifle in many years and I need to make some decisions on the scope. Last week I picked up a new http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/10PRECISIONCARBINE and now I need glass. The two I'm considering are a http://www.nikonsportoptics.com/en/Nikon-Products/Hunting-Optics/Riflescopes/8495/M-308-4-16x42-BDC-800.html and http://www.bushnell.com/all-products/rifle-scopes/elite-tactical/lrs-5-15x-40mm-mil-dot . With either of these or another, I still need a mount setup. Any opinions on these or suggestions on other scopes are welcome. I'd like to stay in the $500 range if at all possible. This will mainly be a range gun unless I decide any different in the future.

Nice choices of scopes. but have you considered a fixed power scope? i have the SWFA 10x42 and i am losing nothing nothing by having a fixed power. with a fixed power you have better glass better filed of view. compared to my other scopes i need to be at 6x power to match the same fov. But can still see 223 bullet holes at 200y. The picture is much "bigger". Do a little research and look for video reviews of the SWFA they really are the best scope under $500. I was afraid of having a fixed, always worried about not being able to zoom out for a close shot or something or wanting more power at "extreme range" but save a little get this scope and then if you need to see farther get a nice spotting scope.

Anyone have any comment on Meopta? I found a Meopta Meopro 6-18x50 mill dot locally. I compared it to some of the Leopold scopes and it really seemed nice, although a little more $ than I planned at $650 but if its worth it, I'd pay it.
