New guy, new savage, in need of new stock

Hello all,
I literally just bought my first savage rifle. I've been a Remington man but am a new convert to the Savage side of the fence. I just bought a Savage 10p 5r. It's a distributor exclusive. It has a detachable box mag and a bolt release under the trigger guard. I have been looking for a new synthetic stock for it but have found little to no options. I like Bell and Carlson stocks particularly the m40 style but it doesn't look like they will fit my rifle. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good lightweight tactical stock that is made for these models. Also I may be looking at replacing the bottom metal and going with something like the surgeon rifle mag fed system. So I need some advice as to where to go from here.

I'm in the same boat looking for one. Choat has a tac model that takes the dbm not sure about quality but they have the full bedding block like the B&C. you can also send the B&C off and have it inlet for the factory metal or whatever you choose to buy check out Dark Eagle Customs.

what b&c would be best to be a base model to send in for inletting? And the dark eagle guys will inlet them?

The only alternative bottom metal/magazine conversion available for the Savage is the CDI Precision setup which uses AI magazines, and it uses a completely different inlet than the stock hardware.

Ok so now where would be a good place to buy the cdi setup? Would it be the same as Remington? And in that case what stock would be best to start with as a base line? One of the B&C that are set up for the blind mag, or the choate or hs precision that are set up for the dbm? Again sorry if these questions seem dumb, I'm used to Remington where most things are just a drop in. I have a 700 that I just bought a B&C and a wyatts kit for and all it took was a couple of screws and it's a done deal. So as far as inletting stocks and parts compatability I'm pretty clueless.

Dark eagle will inlet your stock I dont know price but they also convert savage factory mags to 10rd so you dont need to get a different set up if you dont want to H&s is set up for the savage dbm already amd are good stocks so call around and price the inlet to see what you will save if anything by going with a b&c as for what stock thats up to you.

You could always go with Manners or McMillan stocks

Call CDI direct, they are doing a second Choate for me right now, the CDI and Choate tactical is a great combo, the machining work by CDI is perfect the bottom metal is perfect with teh AI mags too..

masterblaster how do you like the Choate tactical? All I've herd is that they are heavy but not much else and I was thinking for $199 I would probably pick one up.

They are built well, they are a bit heavy and a bit ugly but they work well. If I planned on humping it over a mountain range I would get something lighter, but at my age, no more running at high port arms. I have two of them and am very happy.

Did you do any extra bedding or just strait out of the box?

Just tq it down in the V blocks and you are good to go.

The reason I was asking about the B&C is that they're a lot lighter than the choate and the hs. also will the cdi bottom metal fit a rifle that has the bolt release on the trigger guard? I've heard good and bad things about the hs but it seems like the most like what I'm looking for. I'm just wondering if it will work with my particular rifle.

hahaha why not? honestly because I don't like the mag system that comes stock on the savage. I like a paddle style mag system, also id like to be able to use the same mags as I do on my other rifles
