I'm sure this has been discussed before. I just can't find the information.

Has anyone done any difinitive research as to whether a one piece base is really any more stable and more accurate than good quality two piece bases?

dont think they are more stable. The 1pc(rail) just gives you the option of a canted base and more mounting positions to get the correct eye relief.

It is a lot easier to get good ring alignment with a heavy steel one piece base. You still may need to bed / shim the base but getting there is a piece of cake when compared to getting the same results with a two piece base.

I have NEVER seen the rings line up properly with a two piece base setup.

Another plus with the one piece picatinny rail is that you have a lot more options on eye relief and you can take virtually any scope from any gun and attach it to another gun in seconds without having to remove the rings from the scope tube.

I got this one a couple days ago for my 93 from Rimfire Technologies (http://www.rimfiretechnologies.com/default.asp) and I will
order another for my MKII. Seams to be far more solid then the 2 piece. One
reason I picked it over the EWG(sp) is because of the open port area in the mount.
