I picked up a used Ultimate Varmint this week to see if I could get it to work with the Edge/Axis action. The answer is yes.
The first thing I did was relieve the rear for the weird trigger set up...

Then drilled the hole for the front and added a spacer. I also used some epoxy putty to make a mold for the recoil lug. I covered the recoil lug in grease, got the putty put in place and bolted it together..

I used the follower and mag from a BM, SA, SF, set up and it cycles nicely.
Here are the end results with a Hog Hunter .308 Barrel and a Tri Delta brake. I have a stainless brake on the way and will update with pics.

I also has an EGW mount, Burris XTR Lows, and a Weaver 3x12x50

So, how do you load it?

The same as my blind mags. I will admit it is a little tougher but completely manageable.

I also forgot to add that the bolt release area had to be enlarged a bit.

Do you know how accurate it is being retro-fitted?? Certain ways the shot pattern strings?

I have yet to fire it. I did the barrel swap yesterday as well. I don't anticipate any accuracy issues however. the barrel is free floated and only the action is touching the aluminum blocks.

Finally was able to take it to the range yesterday. Put 54 rounds down range. I gotta say that this thing is so much to shoot. All i was able to get my hands on were 180gr Rem core lokts. I had 6 rounds of federal match 168. With core lokts it was shooting near MOA but not quite. The final 6 shots with the factory 168s took it to under MOA. This is a brand new barrel and I expect it to tighten up with hand loads and some more pills down the tube. I feel certain it is capable of 1/2" groups with the proper loads.
