Alright fellas this will become my build thread for a laminate stock for a friend of mine. I will be posting photos and a full walk through of the build here. As some of you have seen I have done a few stocks for myself, this one will be quite a bit different.

The blank was ordered from Boyd's in royal laminate color. This is the purple and grey/black. I am also not using my standard stock template. He is wanting a thumb hole done similar to a Tundra Thumbhole from Stockys.

I got everything laid out on the stock last night and got the action holes drilled into the blank. I should have the inlet done tonight. I will definitely get some pics up tonight.

Stay tuned.

The way that I have started to do my inlets is to measure off and existing stock and draw a template in SketchUp. I the print it at a 1:1 scale. I have found this to be the fastest and cleanest way for me to do the inlet. I think with this stock I could have used a sharp chisel and got some nice clean lines. With my previous homemade laminates that material would tear out in layers.

If you have any questions please let me know.

The first and most crucial step is drill the bolt holes in the proper location and square.

Then I place my cut out template in place and draw my inlet. As you can see I use the bolt holes to align it.

I also use that template drawing and trace it out on some scrap, which I then cut out using the bandsaw. This will be my router guide.

This is what it looks like. I still have some clean up to do but were on the way. I will get the action inlet done tomorrow and then cut out the rough shape of the stock.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to hint that they want him to make them one to. Might want to familiarize yourself with the rules regarding classifieds and solicitation before you get yourself in trouble.

I fully understand the rules and do not plan on selling or advertising at this point in time. As you can see from the photos I am building these in my basement with simple hand and power tools. This is hardly conductive to mass producing these.

I do build threads like this to show that they can be done with simple hand and power tools. Lol

Back to the regular scheduled programming, I will have more pictures up first thing in the morning. I was able to finish up all the inletting on the top of the stock tonight.

As promised here are some pictures fella's.

I was able to get all the top side inletting done last night. This rifle will retain it's factory barrel which is a sporter contour. I did not want to open up the barrel channel like I usually do with the same router bit as i use for the action inlet. So I started with a much smaller bit for the barrel channel and then proceded to open up the action inlet. After that I used 60 grit sand paper and different sized sockets to get a uniform fit in the barrel channel all while free floating it.

This is my make-shift router table it works rather well for what it is.

It is a piece of 1/2" MDF with the router base attached to the under side. I then clamp it down to whatever is handy. I place the level where I need it and clamp it down also. This acts as my fence.

With the 1.25" round bit, this is used for the action inlet.

After the initial pass.

Before any sanding, right after opening up the action inlet.

Everything opened up and fitting nicely.

I will get some with the barreled action sitting in there tonight.

I also have to open up the action inlet some as the acion diameter is roughly 1.35" and the router bit is 1.25". I do this with an 1.25" piece of dowel rod and some sand paper.

Thanks

Is it going to have a factory taper barrel or aftermarket contour? Well done enjoying watching this.

It is the factory tapered barrel. The contour in the stock follows that also.

My comment wasn't directed at you GD, but at Itsricmo whom I quoted. Never fails, as soon as someone posts up a description or a photo of something they've made for themselves with no desire or interest in mass producing it, someone will come along and want that person to make them one as well. Then that request will be followed up by more and more requests from others if we (the mods) don't nip it in the bud at the onset.

I understand completely Jim. I was just making it known that I know the rules as well as plan on following them. This is your site and guys like me appreciate you having it up and running.

Wow.. My apologies gentlemen... forgot one cannot hint that there are greats things that could come from this for the OP. No rules were broken, no bids were made or deals offered.

Got Diesel, You are doing some extremely fine work! Keep it all up and sorry for the unwanted attention brought on by my post.
