Hey fellow barrel nuts...

Thought I'd share some mods I've done to the factory F-Class stock.

This is the "stock" that most of us have had some legit complaints about (and I may not enumerate all of them here)...

The biggest gripe I had was with the factory design was with the stock behind the trigger. That is...
[1] I hated the bottom portion of the stock from the toe up to the grip. I think I understand what Savage wanted to do here, but it never rode my bag(s) like I wanted nor did the grip feel very good as it was so FAT due to the increasing taper which almost rendered the grip useless (in my opinion)
[2] I would have liked savage to make the grip with light finger curves (not a real biggie)
[3] The forward comb area just behind the bolt did not get enough relief for my taste/grip
[4] I disliked the estetics of the very front of the forearm end and felt that an angled front would not only look nice and reduce weight slightly, but would also expose more of the barrel to the open air and provide slightly better cooling to the barrel.

So I decided I'd take matters into my own hands and re-work this puppy into something a bit more useable (to me anyway)...

Here are some pics of the results:

Might be a bit hard to "See" in the photos, but I significantly re-worked the grip area including angling the grip cap/bottom, re-shaped the bottom to ride the bags better (so the bottom is exactly the same width through the entire length up to the grip cacp). I angled/beveled the front - and I re-worked the area behing the bolt for added comfort.
All it took was time, tools (rasp, files, chisels, snadpaper) and love. After final shaping and sanding to 400 grit, I applied 14 coats of Tru-Oil and 000 steel wool.

I think she looks and feels way better now!

Looks like you did some very fine work. If it works for you then that is all you could ask for. Very nice.

Very nice woodworking. Looking at it,you'd never know it didn't come from the factory like that.
Nice countertops.

Thanks guys... don't know how you all felt about the factory stock, but this one is now quite serviceable (to me).

Adapting your firearm to suit your needs is what its all about. That is some good work and from the pics I'd say it looks better than it did from the factory.

Good Job and Enjoy.
