Hi All,

I picked up an Axis in 223 a couple weeks ago... and I sighted it on with some crappy Wolf Steel case ammo. Well... this morning... I worked up a few rounds and went to the range.

Below is a box-stock 223 Axis XP. (with the stock Bushnell scope)

The load was:

FC once fired brass
55 gn FMJ boat tail from Midway. (Armscor)
24.3 gn H335 powder
CCI 400 primmer

I made some up with the 450 primers (magnum)... but the standard primers were more accurate.

This was at 100 yds. The group measures 0.65" to the outer edge of the holes.

Love this cheap rifle !!!!!!

Ignore the cover dots... those were from my 270.

Amazing, isn't it? Best $275 I ever spent on a rifle.

If only we could get some one to put a nice stock together for a reasonable cost. A nice Accustock would be cool, too.

Looking good with that .223.
Good luck with it.

WOW! Is that only with some good reloads or is similar accuracy available with factory ammo? (I haven't gotten reloading stuff yet)

The wolf ammo isn't bad, despite what guys say. But... it's not going to hold 0.5 MOA. Basically... since the steel cases are lacquered... they sit in the chamber differently from round to round. But... if you want to knock over a steel plate 300 yrds out... they are fine. Besides... before the ammo crazzyness happened... it was only $5 box.

I got a box of Fiocci with V-max bullets... and it was just as good as my hand loads. Basically... if you buy any of the name brand "Hunting" ammo... it should be good.

Personally... I don't know how anyone can enjoy the hobby of shooting/hunting. commercial ammo is too expensive !!!! FYI... even at today's prices... I load 223 for about $4.30 a box for target ammo. Last year... I could do it for less than $3. Add $0.75 a box for good hunting bullets. (HP/SP/BT. etc)
