i got around 230$ to spend on a scope. plan to shoot atleast 500 yards. not much more. my buddy has a bushnell 3-12-40 xlt and its a nice scope. i was thinking of getting one. took out a milk jug at 400 yards. took me 6 shots, but it was really windy, barrel was hot,and his scope mount was a little loose.......... so i dont no if thats a good long lasting scope but it hits nice at 400 yards on a 300 win mag mossburg.

any sugestions? or is the xlt good for me? hes wanting to try 600 yards but iv heard u guys talking on the fourm about if u want shots that far u need more money in the scope then 200$. so iv been told be a couple of you guys.

thanks for any info!!!

The red field revenge 6-18x40 is a great scope. Just out of your price range but they do have like a 30 or 40 dollar rebate going.

I've been fairly happy with the Nikon buckmasters as far as a inexpensive scope goes.

I've got a 2-7 prostaff on one of my muzzleloaders, and it's a decent scope for the money.

I just bought one of the Pentax Gamemaster 30 6x24x50's, I paid $199 at Cameraland. I have to say I am very impressed with this scope, I plan on using it on an upcoming prairie dog hunt on a 22-250, after that I think I will buy another for a 223 I have that currently has a Leupold Vari-x 3 6.5x20 to shoot F-class.

Check out the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 3-9 x 40mm. It is a great scope for the money, the glass is very clear and the turrets are nice with accurate adjustments. The scope also has Rainguard. Don't buy into the more magnification means better scope. I have used it and sold many without any complaints. The glass quality is definitely superior to the XLT. Check it out, I think you will be impressed if you liked the XLT.

are you aware leupold will add turrets and change reticles on older scopes?

All these are good suggestions. I'm partial to the Prostaff for an inexpensive scope. I'm not sure how good your eyes are, but I have found out that 12X is not enough magnification for the long shots (for me). I know our snipers learn to shoot 1000 yds with a 10X scope, but I'm not 20 anymore lol... I have a 4-12 M-223 on my .223 that I'm about to swap out for something with more magnification because it's not enough.

Take a look at the Mueller eradicator or the target dot both in your budget and both very nice scopes.

I recently bought a bushnell legend ultra HD 4.5-14. I couldn't be happier, sure I have better scopes, but they all cost twice as much or more! I'm thinking about buying another for a hunting rifle
