I've decided to order a Savage Axis SR 308 from my local FFL, and anticipate I'll need a cheek rest to get a decent cheek weld (I use a scope).

For those who have experience with the Axis synthetic stock, which would you recommend?

The solid type (screws onto the top of the stock):

Or the hoop type (screws into the sides of the stock):

I'm not interested in a strap-on type. :nono:

Thanks.

I went with a strap on and I made a few different size wood "inserts" to get the right height. I always liked the kydax loop over ones too but they seemed expensive $60 http://www.karstenskydexcheekrest.com/. The screw on ones would work just fine. Have to find the right height

One other thing with a screw/glue on depending on where and how high it is you won't be able to remove the bolt or look down the barrel

I used these:
http://www.swpcustom.com/ I think these are the Kydex wrap over with bolts thru the stock BUT.... He gives extra stuff to patch the holes when you remove it.
But it looks like you don't care for those. How about the olive drab colored strap on bag that carries extra stuff?
I forget exactly what they're called...

Didn't know that since mine's just now on order - thanks for the input.

A square foot of (flat) Kydex is about $10 and it's easy to form at 350F.
