Custom Bolt Handle Needed

Hi Guys,
The issue I have is I have to use my middle finger as my trigger finger. I still have my index finger, but because of tendon damage in my forearm I can't use it to pull the trigger. I just bought a Savage 116 SS (bolt release on the trigger guard) and the bolt handle is in the way of my index finger.

I normally (other rifles) let it ride above the trigger guard. To explain better, open the bolt and use your middle finger to pull the trigger and let your index ride naturally above the guard. Thats right where the bolt is.

I'd like to have one custom made thats bent up, bent forward, no ball, longer shaft....any combo will work as long as I can naturally put my index finger above the guard. Bad thing is I've got about 1/4" between the bolt and the scope. So to bend up it has to be a longer shaft or a smaller ball.

Ideas on who could do this? I have no welding experience beyond sweating pipes (not really welding but you catch my drift).

I found this online but I see it's no longer available. Not sure if it would work, but the clearance looks better than anything I've seen for my situation.

There is a lot of talented guys on here that make there own bolts. I'm sure one of them would be more than willing to work with you. PM mscott71, he has made two for me and there great.

I like the SSS handles myself. Tactical Works carries them as well.

It is relatively easy to change the Savage bolt handle. So as a start, order a spare one, then look to getting that one modified to suit you. Then you can swap it out and try it.

Try looking into the "butterknife bolt handles" style, those might give you your scope clearance you need.

Thomae, Do you ever get knuckle rash from the knurling when firing that thunder stick. With my big fat hands, my index finger knuckle would look like a leather basketball after being bounced and 60 grit sandpaper for a couple of hours.

I don't have an answer for you as I have yet to fire it since the modification. Before I actually epoxy everything together I will make sure it clears my hands/fingers. If not, I'll redesign the ball on the end to be smaller and/or smoother.

I like how you did that with out any welding. Opens a few doors that look promising. Using what you did, one could in fact go in any direction he/she wanted. If the shaft is still in the way, I know a good welder that can heat it up and bend it....I'm just not sure about finishing it after the fact. LOL like I said I'm far from a welder and don't know what it takes to pretty up welds. I'll google that.

After further research, it looks like the tactical bolt handle is available from brownells. I had seen where someone ordered one last month.
