Ah, good to know! I will keep that in mind, as I was looking to purchase an EGW base for it. Thanks!

Are both action screws the same length? Otherwise they might need to be swapped. As I know on my newer Savage one is longer than the other. Something to look at before cutting one down.

Have the EGW 20 MOA on my rifle.....comes with shorter screw for the front holes....make sure you use the short one up front so you don't have bolt clearance OR barrel removal issues. I have a Millett 20 MOA on my other rifle....it's a little taller than the EGW and no screw issues. FWIW

I have been emailing various online retailers to try toget this information! Thanks a bunch.

All three screws are different lengths (on this rifle), and they all appear to be in the right place. When I disassembled the rifle, I was careful to make sure that the screws didn't get swapped.

Exactly why we use/used this gadget BEFORE installing mount screws, Savage or other "Off Brands"!:p

Its just a simple depth gauge. You set the mount on the action, the small shoulder sets in the bottom of the mount counterbore, the pin bottoms out on the barrel threads, the lug, your pinky or in a blind hole. Then its a simple matter of comparing the screw to the gauge.

Its easy to see if a screw is to long....or too short!

had the same thing happen with my second rifle...a "Series J" and was a light dent...took the bolt apart, soaked it brushed it and got all the years of gun out of it and never happened again..the beauty of the large bolt screw it is makes it easy to take apart

I made that one moons ago. They were one of the many tools old time gunwreakers had in their toolbox. This is another..

A protractor depth gauge for checking screw lengths and etc. Here I'm measuring the depth from the stock to the pillar to make an escutcheon and measure how much it needed to be counterbored for the screw.

The same as checking for water before going off the high board I like to check screw lengths before saying "Ah S*****"!:p

Some folks stick a screw in the bare stock and measure how much sticks out. Cut to length
