I have an older Savage 110E-D 7mm Rem Mag (#1260XX) that I intend to replace the barrel on. Is there a sticky around somewhere that I am missing to tell me what size action this is? I used to know, but have been away from the forum and Savages in general for a couple years. Thanks.

Thank you, Sir, that is informative for my short actions. However, I still don't know whether I should be ordering a barrel threaded for a "large" action or standard for my 7mm Rem Mag. What is the difference? I know there is a difference in threading between with the WSM-chambered barrels, but is that it? Will a .223 have the same threading size as a .300 Win Mag? Thanks.

Your 7mag should be a small shank, but to be sure there is a couple ways to check. The link above and more can be found in the FAQ child board in this section. Heres the link to it.

older guns were all std.

new .223s could be either way. New target actions are large.

here is a pic of the different factory barrels... left std, right large

I'm going to be staying with 7mm Rem Mag. I think my rifle is late '60s production, but I don't know.
