Sent the little ball bearing that goes behind the extracter rocketing across my garage today. Luckily, I did'nt lose the spring.
Looked on Numrich, but could'nt find it.
Anybody know of an alternative ball bearing that will work? You know, like the bearings out of a 63 Ford throwout bearing.
Or maybe if I take my desk drawer glide apart? Guess I could call Savage, but it will probably cost 10 times what the bearing is for shipping.

Thanks

The original is a .120", but since you decided to replace it ( ;D) use a .140" ( 9/64) instead. You may be able to find them at a local hardware store.

This might help ya putting it back together. http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php/topic,10681.0.html

Welcome to the I SHOT A BEARING INTO THE AIR club.

As previously said always work on the bolt in a large zip lock bag.

I have done this 3 or 4 times and was lucky enough to find all parts every time. I should have bought a Lotto ticket.

Try a local bicycle shop if you're in a hurry. They use individual balls for wheel bearings in many sizes.

Midway has them as well as the spring, extractor, and ejector. I try to keep a few spares in my gun box.

WOW.
Thanks for all the replies.
I knew there had to be several options out there. And, I don't feel so stupid now.
I was just trying to get a small bit of crud from around the extractor, and ended up pushing it right off the ball bearing.
Luckily, the extractor itself fell on the work bench, and the spring stayed put. Heard the ball bearing hit the garage door on the way out. My dogs were giving me a funny look as i crawled around in the driveway on my hands and knees.

Thanks again, all.

I just measured a #2 steel shot and it is .149. If someone can confirm this will work, I'd be glad to mail it to you. It fell out of a duck breast that I or my roomate shot this past season and has been sitting on the kitchen window sill. PM me your address if you'd like to try it.
Regards,
-Dan
