ok it seems like everyone here is smarter than i so i'll throw this out there. is it possible to load a .22 bullet into a 30 cal casing with the help of a sabot? if so would it be worth it or has it already been tried and failed?

Sure is at 4000 FPS, Rem Arms was selling in several calibers what was called the ACCRETATOR 55gr. .224 in 30 cal.(have a box in 30/06 at 4000FPS.)

Law Enforcement agencies were pushing to have these banned at one time, may have gotten it done not sure. They are not very accurate but the reason for the push against them is that you can not tell what gun they were fired from. In other words in a crime all bets are off on ballistic evidence, same as a real long range shotgun I guess.

balljoint,how accurate are they?
kslefty,my 870 leaves rifling marks on the sabots that i shoot, but i can see where that would be a problem .

I had some in 30-30 and accuracy was probably 5-6 inch groups @ 100 yds out of a scoped lever gun. A bolt action might be a bit better, personally I would load some 110gr v-max if I wanted speed and accuracy out of a light bullet in .30 caliber.

it sounds like it ranks right up there with the bullet made of ice. you could shoot someone with it and there would be no bullet because it melted.oh well out of 100 bad ideas your bound to get 1 good one.

E. Arthur Brown Company sells a kit and the sabots for reloading these. The Remington 3006 Accelerators are OK for shot within 200 yards but not very accurate. The rounds stay within a 6 to 8 inch circle.

I shot them out of my 30/06 Match Rifle they grouped at two and a half inches at 100 yards better than i expected

I wish that they were more accurate and came in all kinds of configurations.

Very cool! I wonder how fast they'd shoot if I reloaded them into my 300 weatherby cases in front of 85 grains of H4831SC ;D

I would say that with the load you suggest there would be a huge fireball out the end of your barrel.
Not enough pressure to burn all the powder.

2.5" groups at 100 yards is all I could get with them. I have some machined sabots so I can shoot 180 grain 30 cal's out of my 460X510!

100grs of 3031 should make the ole chrony sing.
