I have a model 1899 TD in 22 hp which came to me from my great grandfather. It had been neglected and not in good shape. A gunsmith told me the bore was no good. Can this barrel be rebored so I can enjoy the old rifle some without a major pain relating to the magazine and chamber? I am thinking maybe 25-35 since the old 22hp was a modification to this cartridge.

Reline the barrel or have a new one installed and go with a 219 Zipper perhaps?

219 Zipper is basically a 22HP that uses .224 bullets rather than the oddball .228 bullets of the 22HP.

Yes - it can be rebored. Redman's is the best http://www.redmansrifling.com/ in my experience but they cost $. Relining isn't an option with the high pressure cartridges. You could easily rebore to 25-35 and (probably) 30-30. Mad Dog will correct me if I am wrong on the cartridges working with the rotor.

Of course you will have big $ invested but a family piece is worth some money.

Ah, now I see what happened, I answered the same posts in rimfire.

Thanks for the advice. It is a slender barrel. I will look into getting it rebored to 25-35

How bout going to 6mm-30? lots of 6mm bullets available. The gunsmith I talked with told me to do the same with my 22HP. PO Ackely made one. its in Cartridges of the world. its a 30-30 case necked down. But if you don't handload, forget it. and go to the 25-35. Just another option.

Where would you find 25-35 brass?
