Well I decided to add a new rifle to collection. I wanted something very accurate. I have blown a lot of money on guns that just have not preformed to my liking. I begged my wife for a week to let me “invest” into a new gun that I had my eye on at Dicks Sporting Goods. A SAVAGE Markii . Finally she gave in. She said as long as I buy her new pair of shoes I could get it. I drove so fast to Dicks and sprinted to the sporting goods section. My heart sank. It was gone. I was so upset. I saw sitting right there where the Markii was, was this beautiful SAVAGE 93R17 BV Dressed in a laminate stock. Sure it was more money but by that time my wife saw the frustration on my face and decided to take advantage of my weak state. She said don’t worry honey if you buy me a jacket too you can get that one. YESSSSSSS! So I got my background check and ba da bing ba da boom 3 weeks later after a light rifle cleaning and sitting on the couch with it every night when I got home from work, I am at the range. I invited my mom to come with me. I pulled out the Ruger 10/22 at the 25yard range and sighted it in for her so I could get down to business with that Savage accutrigger. I got it sighted in and I caught my mom eyeing my target through her scope. She was like uhh are you going to let me shoot that one. That looks pretty accurate. Sure mom. So she loaded up a mag and pow!! Dead center. She looked at me and said S*it that trigger is so light it`s scary. Pow,pow, pow, pow. I thought she was going to get up and let me shoot but she kept going to town. I decided to move it out to the 50yard range. I put up these neat hostage targets and I was able to put 3 dead center of the bad guys head. Well under a dime. I had a huge smile. I shot a few more times and all of the sudden I feel a poke on my back and I turn around and it’s an old man with a Cain. He picks up my spent casings and says look here son. Do you see this? He points to the back of the case and I see a bulge near the bottom rim. He said I suggest you stop shooting that gun right now!!! I was like how the heck did he just see the bulge on those tiny shells? He’s like 100 years old. He said I don’t want to scare you but that is not normal. Don’t shoot that gun!!! He scared the crap out of me. My face was as white as a ghost my mom was like. Honey? Are you okay?:( Wow. I had to get a second opinion. We left the range and I took mom home. I decided to stop by our local gunsmith. I took the shells in and just laid them down in front of him and he shook his head right away. I knew I was in trouble. He told me if it`s brand new to take it back to Dicks and see what they say. So I did and they said oh yeah that case bulge is not normal. They are going to send it back to Savage on Monday. I felt so bad. I freaking love my new gun. I love how it looks, how accurate it is. I just plain love it. Now I have to live without it for weeks. I have no idea how these warranty things work and I just hope it can get fixed. I spent a lot of money and thought into this purchase and I just want my rifle to be okay. It`s like it is a family member that has cancer. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/25m74 RANGE TIME http://www.freeimagehosting.net/thuk9 Yeah baby. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/fnvg9 Mom Hoggin the gun!! http://www.freeimagehosting.net/pitit SHOOT THE HOSTAGE!!! Dime grouping at 50yards. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/xhjd6 That just makes me plain sad. Please help me Savage.

thats a very interesting and amazing story, i have never heard of a rimfire 22 or 17 doing that, plus for someone to see a bulge case on the ground, maybe the old gentleman heard something strang and came to investigate, sorry to here your tale, almost sounds like wrong ammo or something, rich

My Savage 93R17 FXP did the exact same thing. It bulges casings on the side (sometimes even cracks it :o) and fails to eject and sometimes to chamber but only with Winchester ammunition. I have put CCI and Hornandy through it without any issues at all. I don't know what brand of ammo you were running but that may be the issue. I have read that these are picky eaters and tend to have issues with Winchester ammo for some odd reason. To give you an idea my dad has the rifle that is serialized right behind mine (mine is xxxxx5 and his is xxxxx6) and his has a failure to fire issue with Winchester ammo. To fix my issue I just decided to spend the extra buck or two and get a different brand. Changing brands fixed both of our issues.
