I am increasingly in love with these Axis rifles. I took my two, a .223 and a .270, to a friend's private range today and did a bit of shooting. Only one load was shot in each rifle: Silver Bear 62. gr.JSP for the .223, Winchester 130 gr. Powerpoint for the .270. The temp was in the mid-70s, wind gusting 10-15 MPH from left to right, bright and sunny. Five 3-shot groups were fired with each rifle, with a 10-minute cooldown between groups. I waited for a wind lull, then fired 3 quick shots for each group.

Call me a liar, if you will -- I saw what I saw! The .223 averaged .495"; the .270, .895". This from 2 rifles with no mods except to the trigger, shooting bargain-basement, off-the-shelf cheapo ammo, using 2 inexpensive scopes -- an old proven Simmons 8-Point and a used, beat-up pawnshop Nikon Prostaff, both 3-9X40. Including scopes, I have about $570 in these two rifles.

Talk about bang for your buck!

I also fired a Savage 170 .30-30 I recently traded for. This time, the atrocious trigger, open sights, and Corelokt 150 gr. ammo conspired to really let me down -- average 3-shot, 100 yard group was 1.7", with the biggest being 2.5"! And I wear bifocals...

Do you think I am happy??

Nice shooting! I hope to get my girls out with their .308's today before it snows again! Mid 70's sounds pretty nice I think its bumping 9 out here this morning before dawn. We'll be shoveling snow off the bench of before we can start.

Can only hope they get similar results.
