Yup 21"-22" varmint, lt varmint, or magnum is about perfect in my book for a hunter.

You could just keep standard barrels in stock the if we short barrel nuts want a chop job set up a lathe.
You could also Ackleyize std barrels pretty easy if you have the reamers.

Right now I am after a 20"-22" 6.5x55 swede hunting barrel, magnum or varmint contour.

Hey Dennis I could not help but notice you do not offer any 25 cals or 270, and those two calibers are the ones with the least amount of variations.

I can't speak for McGowen, but those two are the least selling calibers we sell; we've even been selling more 408's, 416's and 50's than both of those...

If you don't mind I'm going to keep an eye here so I know what I should try and get on the shelves.

Well my next barrel is going to be a 270 Weatherby, I am sure I will find someone to turn one out for me, I love my 257 and my 300 and the 270 will complement the set. I have those 95 gr TTSXs in mind for that one.

You can't leave out the 240 weatherby! I'm considering one of those myself in the near future

That's my next next one, at one point I was torn between the 240 WBY, and the 6mm06AI which is no slouch, but I had tons of 25-06 brass already, and some times your wallet is the deciding factor, "let me correct that most of the time it's your wallet" no regrets but I sure love those Weatherby's.

How about either a 20 tactical or a 20 practical. I would also love to see some 17 caliber stuff, very few manufactures make the 17's.

I would like to see sub 6mm calibers offered as semi-custom. According to the website if I was interested in a 204 Ruger, light varmint contour, and 22-inch length I would be dealing with a custom build and "custom" lead time. I really like the website, the concept, and your willingness to poll the users in an attempt to best serve. Please don't forget about the smaller calibers.

I think that there are only a few contours that should be "in stock" items.

HV- straight taper from the nut to .875" muzzle
LV- straight taper from the nut to .75" muzzle
Hunter- maybe a beefier version of a factory type contour

Personally I think he is close, but I would personally drop the 28" barrels.

Tapers I would suggest would be a bull, Heavy Varmint, Magnum, with something like a pencil barrel as a special order
for the Super ultra light guys.

As far as lengths I agree with 22" being a good length. 24" is a tad to long for me for a box stand or on the center hump of a truck.

To me 24" is sort of an oddball length and 22" is just about as long as I want to deal with for a hunter. 20" is even better but a loss in velocity.

Then offer a quick chop and recrown service for us short barrel nuts, IE chop a 22 down to 16-18-20 etc.
You could also chop a 30" down to 28" or a 26" down to 24"-25" if you get a person that has to have a specific length
that only works for their application.

That way you are only carrying 3 different contours/lengths but all pretty heavy, but there are a bout a million savage sporter barrels floating around too and most of them shoot good.

i'd say a 22" heavy mag/light varmint 1:7 for the .223 throated for 75/80gr a-max's
26" same profile maybe 1:8 .223ai also throated for 75/80gr a-max at 2.45-2.5"
26-28" .243win throated for 115dtac's varmint/heavy varmint contour 1:8 seems to be a popular choice even better is 6mm creedmoor
18.5" 1:10 even 1:9.5 .308 varmint contour threaded 5/8-24 throated for 208gr a-max's @ 3"

Something i'd like to see that I feel would be a popular trend would be a family of barrels offered example like listed above the 20 practical. this cartridge is simply a necked down 223 remington and is actually made with a 223 remington bushing die with a smaller bushing for 20 cal. if barrels were offerend in say 20, 6mm, 25 cal (kinda the peak of the case efficency) then offer a die set say open all of the sizing dies to 25 cal(easy process on a lathe that most of us don't have access to) then offer the barrel in a package with the dies with appropriate bushing and seating stem. and then also offer a "upgrade package" that just comes with the barrel, bushing, and seating stem which can be added to an already owned die set.

this could allow a person with very available .223 brass to have a barrel for p-doggin(20 cal), long range target shooting(6mm), and medium game rifle (25cal)

similar to the Garin cartridge philosophy

same can be offered in the .223AI family (probably a bigger hit in my opinion)

Some in stock 25 cals would be awesome in what ever length and contour you would be willing to give us. I realize they are not as popular as the 6mms but there are a few of us out there that prefer the 25s over the 243s and the custom barrel market for a 25 is pretty slim.

I'm with this also along with whats been already said. You dont find either of those 20s in stock & at 22" with a 1/10" or 1/11" twist in medium/heavy sporter for lighter coyote/varmint rigs. I have no use for anything longer than 24" even for all day p-dog shooting.

I'd have to agree with most all that's posted. I'd like to see full bull small shanks 22" and 30" 223 1-12/1-9 and 22-250 1-14/1-9 I'm more into prairie dogs and coyotes than trying to succefully get a 223 consistently to 1000 yards. And some small shank full bulls in 30-06 1-10twist

I think 1-9 twist has been completely eclipsed by the 1-8 which shoots just as accurately and shoots a wider range of bullets.

I agree and really dont know why one would prefer a 9 twist over an 8 twist or why the factory even offers a 9 twist.

With 223 and 22-250 you either want to shoot varmint slow twist like a 1:12 or 1:14 or a long bullet fast twist barrel.
