Got the bug for a new barrel. Notice there was a group buy from a vendor for 16.5" barrels last year, curious how they shoot. A few things to consider...can .221fb brass be used; can light to heavy bullets be used with the 8 twist or does it need to be a 9 or 10 twist for that. I plan to screw the barrel onto a striker pistol action.

Have a friend with a 30 cal m1 style pistol, (factory gun from where I can't tell), stock is crappy but it's a hoot to shoot. The cartridges look similar to the blk or the whisper.

can't give imput on a bolt gun but from an "evil black rifle" 1:8 works fine for both heavies and light I run 110gr v-max's and 208 a-max's (some run as heavy as 240smk's or 254gr NOE cast bullets) I use lil gun for 110's and aa1680 for the 208's and 150's(only reason I run a powder so slow is for gas volume to cycle the AR gas system.

I have put together quite a few of the blackouts which is almost identical as the 300/221fb. I would suggest making brass from 223, the neck up from 221-30cal can be hard on the brass. Recoil is pretty minimal especially with the subsonics. I had to fix a customers cz527 that he bought as a "custom" rifle but the threads for the can were crooked and the chamber was off. After I got it done it shot pretty well and was fun to shoot with subsonics.

Hey Devin, thought one would be a perfect switch barrel on the striker to match the .221fb barrel you chambered for me. It shoots great, almost no recoil. Last fb brass I got was less than $30/100. Can't find it much now for less than $50.

squirrel, what kind of range do you shoot both the lights and heavies? Can the short 16" barrel hold out to 200yrds?

I think its been discussed before...but I'm curious if anybody has come up with a solution for consistent ejection on a Savage 300 BLK...?

My striker is cycling and ejecting the .221fb, will hold one in mag correctly, the second one will not. Devin cut a feed cone on the barrel, this is the second that worked ok, the first was a 20vt.

I would like to know what ejection issues your talking about. I built one and have had no problems thus far with it. I did build mine with a center feed action and a bfg designs barrel maybe I just got lucky

personally only out to 100 so far still in the load development stage. but general concensus is 300yds with subs due to very aggressive trajectory and can be pushed out to approx 500yds with supers. but thats on paper. from a ethical standpoint i'd limit subs to 150yds or less and 300yds for supers on deer sized game. even at 300 with supers i'd rely on the 110gr ttsx black tip to do the job.

I had one of my customers shooting out to 540 before he ran out of scope, I wouldn't shoot anything over a pdog out that far with it but 200yards and deer wouldn't be to hard. All of your powder will be burned in the first 12" or less so you shouldn't have any problems with the 16". Tons of 8" AR barrels out there.

Up to 200 yrds here for deer is perfect. Black tongue got a lot of deer here last fall, usually this time of year there will be up to 20 standing in the fields at night...only four this year.
