converting .300 wm to .243 win?

Hi guys i have a .300 wm 110 hunter with a cdi dbm ai 10rd mag and a choate stock.i had to be the cool guy and buy a magnum because my friends had .270s .308s and. 30-06s. But now ammo is scarce and expensive i was looking and saw an abundance of .243 and its cheap. So my question is will a. 243 work in a la? I realize it will need a bolt face and a barrel. But what do i do about a mag? Do they have a la .308 mag that i cant find? Thank you guys.

OK...your Choate stock will do fine...your going to need to swap out the magnum bolt head for a .473 bolt head...your long action will feed the .308 parent cartridge .243 just fine HOWEVER your CDI DBM will need t be swapped out for a bottom metal for the 308 size cartridge...no way around it...the .243 will probably rattle around in that mag if you tried to mod it...call CDI and they'll hook you up...I'm kinda in a similar situation as I have an older 110 action built as a GSR (guerrilla sniper rifle) in .308...I just traded a crap load of 300WM ammo I'll never shoot again (shoulders) for a nearly new 26" Bull Stainless barrel in .243AI...so I'm good to go...the longer bottom metal is going to be your biggest hurdle...

Yes...but the best thing to do is call CDI and thell them what your doing...he'll get you straight...other than rebarreling it the DBM is your biggest obstacle...the footprint for your 300WM bottom metal should be the same for your "LA" 308/243 bottom metal...its based on the action screws which is a static measurement...

As I understand it Savage made LA before SA's...everything was shot out of a LA...someone correct me if I'm wrong but I know I've shot 223/308/300WM out of LA rifles

That is absolutely correct. I have a LA 22-250.

I converted a LA 270 to 22-250 and it shoots like a dream.

Ok thanks guys i contacted jeff at cdi he said that the sa bottom metal and mag will fit no problem on the la it will just have a gap in the rear.
