Where is the best place to buy a Shelen barrel or do you have to go direct through them? Also, compared to an ER Shaw, is it worth the extra money. I am thinking 6mmBR or 280AI for my first build. Thanks

Go talk to Jim Briggs at Northland Shooter Supply. He is a sponsor here and his contact info is in the sponsors boards. He is a great guy to deal with and will be a big help. He keeps quite a few Shilen barrels on hand. Also look at the CBI barrels. Quality is same as Shilen and often better price. Ask Jim about both.

teach,

ER Shaw is a great barrel for a hunting rifle. A target rifle might be better off with a Shilen. I don't have any experience with the Shaw heavy barrels but the sporter I have is good.

You can't go wrong talking to Jim.

ER Shaw does not make match grade barrels. Their barrels are very good for the price.

But if you Google match grade barrels or look at Lilja, Shilen etc you will see the many extra steps done to make a match grade barrel.

Jim can get you a Select Match grade for just a little more than ER Shaw. Some places will set you back another $100-200. Northlands prices are not that much higher.

Why don't you get a 6.5 Creedmoor, many very good factory and custom loaded ammo and they will shoot as good as your 6BR and less recoil than the 280.

I second the Jim Briggs at Northlander Shooter Supply. Got my shilen from him, took 4 days from order, even over Thanksgiving.

Good Afternoon,

I placed my order with Jim on Saturday for a 30" 308 Shilen Barrel. I got "The Call" on Monday from the CEO at Northland Shooter Supply, and was informed that my barrel will be here tomorrow. It just doesn't get any better than that.

I actually just ordered another CBI (for a buddy) from Jim today. As always he was a pleasure to deal with. Wished I could've gotten myslef one also, but already too many irons in the fire.

I can only speak to the "quality" of the ER Shaw barrel. My 260 Rem shoots 1/2 MOA out to 300yrds, about as good as I can shoot on a regular basis. I ordered it from them made to my specifications and it took 4 months. I guess it could take longer now because of the "crunch", you would have to check with them. I'm going to get a 7BR barrel in the near future from them. Good Luck :)...Jim

Good Afternoon,

I finally got a chance to try out that Shilen Select Match 308 Barrel at 300 yards. I loaded up some Berger 185's with Varget from 38 grains to 42.5 grains in .5 grain intervals. Only three of the (3 shot) groups were over 1". The best 3 were .711", .785", and .870". Needless to say I'm very happy with the barrel. These groups were shot off of a bipob with a rear bag on a bench.

Thursday I'm planning on trying it out to 600 yards. If it preforms well at 600, I'll be trying it at 800, 900, and 1000 yards. I've purchased a couple of the CBI Bull barrels in 6BR, 260, and 6.5x284 from Jim that shoot extremely well, but so far none of them can shoot with the new Shilen.
