Anybody tried to shoot 75gr A-Max, Berger VLD's, Swift Scirocco's, JLK VLD, etc in a 1 and 9? What kind of results did you get? Is this asking to much from a 1 and 9? As always thanks for the help.

should work ok but will be about the limit for a 1 in 9

The 75 A-Max's are a little long, and don't stabilize in some 1-9 twist barrels. Mine shoots the shorter 75gr BTHP match bullets great, but doesn't care much for the A-Max's.

The VLD's will require a faster twist, a 1-8 or 1-7.

I had a mod 12 bvss with a 1 in 9 twist that shot the Berger 70 gr vld very well
I also sent the gun to Savage for repairs and they sent a test target back that was less than moa with 77gr bullet ( I believe it was a federal shell, Sierra SMK, but that was a few years ago LOL)
But as others have said your gun might like them or not
The only way to know for sure would be to try some
Hope this helps
Jack

+1 On that bullet.

Both my AR-15 and Savage bolt action 1-9 Twist shot that bullet better than any I have loaded for.

A 1:9 Savage should shoot a 70gr VLD, 75gr HPBT, or 77gr SMK/CC just fine.

The 75gr A-Max is a 50/50 proposition; I had a 26" 1:9 12FV takeoff barrel that would put 10 into about 0.7" @ 100yd but I never really stretched it out to verify.
