Nobody that I know of shoots a .308 in competitive bench rest. The 6 mm's pretty much rule.

It would be easy enough to rebarrel it.

I have seen a couple of people try to use them in 308 for 600 yard benchrest, sad to say they was far from even being competitive. I have seen people with this same rifle chambered in 6mmBR and was super competitive. I think that says it all.

I got into benchrest about 5 years ago with my 12fv in 308. I now use a old 112v single shot with a 6br barrel. It's like night and day. Im as new at it as they come. Shot a .6 at 200 yards with the 6br and a .8 with the 308. Plus the 308 as a slight kick to it..

For the Bolt Head look at Gunshack http://www.gunshack.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=25 They are a sponsor on this forum.

If you are serious regarding competition, get yourself a 243 AI 8 twist barrel or a 6mmXC or a 6x47 Lapua. Talk to Jim from NSS. He keep stock of barrels from several different vendors (Shilen, Mc Gowan, CBI etc). The 6x47 would be the easiest since you can get factory brass, 6XC I think now has Norma brass (both of these single source) 243 AI you have to fireform your brass, but on the positive side, brass is readily available from several manufacturers.

Then use Berger 105 VLD's or one of the other custom BR bullets that are out there. Otherwise you do not stand a chance...

i just realized that the 270 is long action and the 308 is short action.the model of it is a bvss i think.the gun is heavy.it dont seem to be as accurate as my model 116 in 270.i was shooting black hills 168gr match ammo.maybe when i handload some 150gr it will be better.i would like to use it in f class.

I would go the .243 ai and find some 115 dtacs. And you'd need good glass and lots of $$$&&&
