Has anyone shot the newer 7mm 08 with thte 1 in 9.5 twist rate.

Wanted to buy one and was wondering if this is as accurate with 140 and 120 grain bullets as all other Savages seem to shoot out of the box.

Accuracy expectancy should be no different than any other Savage. Savage originally offered their 7mm-08 in a 1 in 9.75 twist and did so for decades. It wasn't until sometime in the early 2000's that they changed to the 1 in 11" twist rate, a change that was made to tailor the barrel more towards the 120-140 grain bullets. However, doing so negated the use of most any bullet over 140 grains in the 7mm-08 and after a number of complaints from customers they opted to return to the more accepted and standard 1 in 9.5" twist rate for the 7mm-08. The 1 in 9.5" twist rate will typically shoot the 120-140 grain bullets just as well as the slower twist rate.

With all the new high tech bullets coming to market, I like the see at 9" twist like the Kimber does for it's 7-08.

A well known barrel maker posts this informaation for 284 diameter bullets.

8" for all bullets-customer discretion 180 gr. VLD
9" for bullets heavier than 140 gr.
11" for bullets up to 140 gr.
12" special for high velocity

Here's a couple of groups with mine. Its a 2012 Model 11 FCNS (AccuStock) in 7mm-08. I bought it new, last July. These were the Speer 145 BTHP Match bullets. I have a new box of Hdy 162 A-Maxes I'm dying to try.
