Looking to rebarrel with either a 6.5x55 or 7x57 barrel. I really like both of these calibers. What is the best twist rate? The 6.5x55 is offered in both 1/8 and 1/9, the 7x57 is only available in 1/9.5.

I currently have a 30-06 and o\although only used for hunting the recoil is more then I care for.

The rifle would be used for hogs/deer.

Thanks, Ken

At the bottom of the page in this link is a chart that gives twist rate vs bullet weight.

I hope this helps some.

I would go with the faster twist, that way you have the option of shooting the heavier bullets should you desire.

I have 2 6.5x55 barrels and would not go slower than a 8.5 twist (so 8, given the choices). 9.5 should be fine for a 7x57. I have had three factory rifles in the chambering (still have 1) and think it is great
