Sorry if this is in wrong forum, I couldnt really tell where it should be posted.

My ? is for the guys that have the heavier long guns. For transportation purposes and general protection in camp or range, what is your preferred method of carrying and storing your gun. Hard case or Soft Case?

Well Padded soft cases have served me well in the past but my current collection of guns is on the lighter side. I am trying to pick a case for a 10FCP HS with large optics, bipod and 10 round mags. I would like enough extra room to carry an extra bipod for when the need arises for something taller and I will also be carrying a suppressor. I am guessing by the time I add some ammo to the mix, the weight will be close to 20lbs. I am not sure with the weight if a soft case will protect my gun satisfactory while transporting or not.

What is your opinion?

Hardcase...expect to spend $150 to $250. You want one with 5 or 6 latches - one on each end and the others down the side.

Sounds like you're going to have some decent money in that case. As the saying goes pay now and cry only once. So I'd spend the 180 for something like this "SKB Freedom Double Rifle Case" Or 120 for "Gun Guard™ Double Scoped Rifle Gun Case" I think I like this next one best. Just went to Cabelas for ease of searching since I knew they had them "Cabela's Armor Xtreme Molded Rifle/Carbine Hard Case" Look awesome for 180... Ya its some cash. However given the kind of money you've got into the rifle its a wise investment. Price goes up from there to 265 for the "SKB Multi-Gun Cases" For a single high end tactical rifle I think the Cabela's Armor case looks pretty sturdy. I'm planning on getting something like that for traveling myself. Let us know what you pick out.

I have one of the skb double gun cases and it can fit two tactical style scoped rifles in it. I have had it for a long time and I think it was $200 when I got it.

Pelican make some of the finest cases around, they are not cheap but what is your gun worth riding on an airplane or ups etc.

Can't go wrong with a pelican case.

I am a little surprised no one even mentioned a soft case. I do like the protection of a hard case, I just dont like the idea of having to find a place to store it when at home and the gun is in the safe. I have looked at the Pelicans and they are pricey.

I don't see the point of a soft case.... Kind of like a gun sock.

I have picked up one of the Cabelas armor cases and find the quality to be about the same as pelican, I do however like the latches better and easier on the hand.

Yes it does. I used it for wife's custom and I was also able to get the ammo in there as well. Here is the link to the case I used..

I have the Cabelas Armor single case.....very impressed with it. Only complaint is the egg crate foam....had to cut the teats off to get it to close on my rifle. Could also stand to be another 1 inch wider for scoped rifles with high rings. Can't beat it for the price though.
