im looking at a savage axis in 223 rem ! with all the 233/5.56 ammo out there and all the info bout how not to shoot the 5.56 ammo in a 223 rem gun leaves me with lots of questions! and it all about the leade... so my main question is-is savage made to shoot both kinds? please feel free to fill me in with and first hand info you all have on this..thanks

I am no gunsmith but the specs on both rounds are same it is just the pressure that is different. the 5.56 is higher pressure. i would say that an axis could handle the pressure but i am no professional gunsmith. just don't put any 5.56 in your granpappys old 223.

Seriously, this has been discussed in this forum ad nauseum.
No need to reinvent the wheel, do a search and you will hopefully find some of the older threads.

Here is someplace to start.
